Whether you consider yourself an artist or just someone who enjoys being creative, come along to the clinic and use an Art Doctor’s creative prompt to get you started on something, bring along your own creative idea or existing project, or do a combination of both.
22nd April to 8th July 2026: every Wednesday from 7-9pm
Pay As You Decide on the night, by cash or card
Fourth Idea Studios, 2 Ashley House, Upper Ashley Lane, Shipley, BD17 7DA
Art Doctors think creativity can be good for you. We gather near art galleries and museums, at events, in workplaces and online, wearing our paint-splattered coats and stethoscopes, with prescription pads at the ready. We diagnose creative problems and give out prescriptions to help. We make our own art too – we make films, we write, we draw. And we work with all sorts of different people: healthcare professionals, social prescribers, radio presenters, students, artists, people just hanging out on the street – anyone.

Who’s the clinic for?
Artists who want a space to experiment, get fresh ideas and work in the same space as other creative people
People who maybe don’t think of themselves as artists, but who want to explore their creativity and find out what they’d like to do more of
People who are interested in Art Doctors, what we do, and who might want to get more involved
What kinds of creative activity can I bring?
Anything! It could be drawing or painting, a gardening project, photography, sound, movement/performance, writing, textiles, anything you consider to be creative. We can have some fun working out how everything works together in the same space (it’ll be spring/summer so outside is a possibility too), hopefully we’ll inspire each other, and we might even end up working together on something!
Do you provide materials and guidance?
We will provide materials and guidance for the creative prompt activity and have some general materials available for anyone to use. You will need to bring any specific materials or equipment with you.
This is a bit of an experiment for us, so we’re planning 12 sessions (you don’t have to come every week but it’d be good if you can try and get to most of them) and then we’ll see what we all think about carrying on. We want to create a community who support each other’s creativity and help develop what Art Doctors do, but most of all we want to do something playful and fun for a couple of hours on a Wednesday night.
The workshop space at Fourth Idea is down a quite steep set of stairs, and is not currently accessible from the ground floor.
Hot drinks and biscuits will be available.
Fourth Idea Studios is a creative hub bringing together artist studios and The Basement, which is a creative space dedicated to art in its widest interpretation. We hope for collaboration, experimentation, and community.
There are a diverse collective of creatives in our studios & Fourth Idea supports artistic growth through shared ideas, hands-on practice and a make it possible attitude. The Basement offers a humble, welcoming environment full of potential. A place we hope will see bold people bringing their ideas to life.
